Abrams, the creator of Lost and director of the new Star Trek, spoke at TED last year about what he calls his “mystery box.” Not just a physical box, but an idea that has driven his creative process over the years. In 18 minutes, Abrams manages to talk about his inspiration and what has kept him motivated through every project…how what people perceive to be the essence of a story is often not the driving force…and how special effects are available to anyone with a computer, but that sometimes the most effective visual fake can be done by thinking simply.
