Have you seen Kevin Pollak’s Chat Show? If you like watching witty celebrities banter with other witty celebrities (and can get past the incredibly long intro), you’ll probably enjoy it.
Anyway, I’d like to share a particular episode that features a (rather long) interview with Dana Carvey. As both Pollak and Carvey are comedians, they discuss the business and its many nuances…but most interesting from an ArtBloom perspective is Carvey’s description of his beginnings as a comedian. Performance is like any other artform; it’s just as difficult to begin a career in comedy as it is in any other creative arena. The two of them talk about what it’s like to start out as a young comedian, how nerve-racking it can be, and exactly how Carvey got into the business. It’s an entertaining watch! (Fair warning: there’s foul language.)
